and to bridge the gap between the traditional and non-traditional

Culturally Competent Treatment Project provides African-American specific substance abuse treatment services through collaboration between EFR & Urban Dreams.
EFR has been awarded a grant from the Iowa Department of Public Health to provide culturally competent substance abuse treatment services. This 8-month pilot project will fund professional assessment, outpatient substance abuse treatment, and regular case management contact. Utilizing best substance abuse treatment practices incorporating Motivational Enhancement for Change principles, this project is expected to further define how to best meet the needs of African-American clients, whose substance abuse issues are often treated as a criminal, rather than a health-related, issue. This project is targeted towards African Americans who do not have insurance or other means for substance abuse treatment.
